Mission/Misión:

Trans-Latinx DMV advocates for the needs that specifically affect the Trans-Latinx community and strategizes ways to improve the community’s quality of life in DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) while working to amplify educational resources promoting Trans leader empowerment.

Trans-Latinx DMV abogada por las nececidades que afecta a la comunidad Trans-Latinx, y elabora estrategias para mejorar la calidad de vida de la comunidad en DC, Maryland, y Virginia (DMV), mientras trabaja para amplificar los recursos educatorios para promover el empoderamiento de lxs Lideres Trans.

Vision/Visión:

Trans-Latinx DMV aims to live in a community where all Trans-Latinx people, regardless of race, culture, national origin, gender, abilities, documentation, migration status, class, or color, can live, survive, and thrive within their desired life; and believes that community wounds can be healed through peer support and the arts.

Trans-Latinx DMV quiere vivir en una comunidad donde todas personas Trans-Latinx, sin importar raza, cultura, origin nacional, genero, expression de genero, habilidades, documentacion, estatus migratorio, clase, o color, puedan vivir, sobrevivir, y prosperar en la vida que desean; y creen que las heridas de la comunidad pueden sanarze con el apoyo de pares y las artes.
 

History/Historia

Trans-Latinx DMV born in Feb 2014 in the leadership of Alexa Rodriguez, an Indigenous Nawat-Lenca Salvadoran trans womxn, that has been an active Board of Directors of The National TransLatin@ Coalition since 2010 and Trans-Latinx function as a region Chapter. 

There are many resources in DC, and Alexa so that there also a lot of gaps where the community struggle to access to this resources, and that is why Trans-Latinx DMV was created, not only to fill those gaps but also to advocate for our community. There is a lot of work to do and no funding for grassroots organizations like ours. We call to founders and philanthropist  to invest in our work, to invest in trans lives.

Trans-Latinx DMV nació en febrero de 2014 bajo el liderazgo de Alexa Rodríguez, una mujer trans indígena nawat-lenca salvadoreña, que ha sido miembro activo de la junta directiva de The National TransLatin@ Coalition desde 2010 y Trans-Latinx funciona como un capítulo regional.

Hay muchos recursos en DC y Alexa, por lo que también hay muchos vacíos en los que la comunidad lucha para acceder a estos recursos, y es por eso que se creó Trans-Latinx DMV, no solo para llenar esos vacíos sino también para abogar por nuestra comunidad. Hay mucho trabajo por hacer y no hay financiación para organizaciones de base como la nuestra. Hacemos un llamado a los fundadores y filántropxs a invertir en nuestro trabajo, a invertir en las vidas trans.

ADVOCACY/APOYO:
At Trans-Latinx DMV, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing the issues that affects our community.

Community advocacy is by no means an easy feat, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can facilitate progress in this area. 

En Trans-Latinx DMV, estamos dedicadxs a intensificar nuestrxs esfuerzos para abordar los problemas que afectan a nuestra comunidad. La abogacia comunitaria no es una tarea fácil, pero a través de la cooperación y el empoderamiento de la comunidad, creemos que podemos facilitar el progreso en esta área.

COMMUNITY BUILDING/CREANDO COMUNIDAD:
With this initiative, our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential. 

Con este iniciativa, nuestra meta es promever grandes oportunidades para aquellxs con nececidad. Con acesso a los recursos correctos, gente que se puede empoderar con sus propias habilidades, y ganar la confianza de vivir a su potencial.
